21: Zenith Space Command (TV Remote aka “The Clicker”)

When I was very young, my mom told me a story about how my uncle would secretly annoy my grandparents by standing outside the house while “jangling” his keys in order to mess with the television set. I always thought that was a crazy notion that made no sense and dismissed it at a young age as folklore. (My grandfather’s car could also fly). I now find myself amazed at the science behind such a crazy story. I never knew…

I also remember Sam getting a kick out of hearing us call the “remote control” a clicker. Ahh, much sarcasm have I endured; “Hey John! Why don’t you turn the TV on… WITH THE CLICKER!!! AHAHAHAHAA…” And now I know why. I’m sure the ol’ “Zenith Space Command” wasn’t much in the quiet department, what with its internal hammer n’ all. And for some reason, I just don’t see my grandfather sayin’, “Honey, have you seen the Zenith Space Command Unit??” The CLICKER, it is.

Now, if I can just figure out how that car left the ground.
