From ABCnews.com:
In the early 1960s, America’s top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.
…America’s top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: “We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba,” and, “casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation.”
The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy’s defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.

In 1925 the most popular vehicle in the US (the Ford Model T) for a combine 25mpg (miles per gallon). Contrast this to 2005 when the most popular vehicle in the US (the Ford F150) gets a combined total of 16mpg.
Now explain to me why we shouldn’t expect more effiency out of our cars and trucks in the US 80 years later. And I don’t buy the argument of added vehicle weight - that should have been overcome by technology by now.
(actually the Model T was getting 25mpg way back in 1908)

Of course the ironic thing is that these photos of the don’t even look as bad as the 2003 Ford F150 that was tested in the US a few years ago:

Hear how it all went down:
Lexus SC 430 convertible speeds down a sunny street in Cupertino. The top is down. Brushed Metal is behind the wheel, stabbing at the buttons on his mobile phone.
We hear the connection ringing. Brushed Metal’s agent, Mike, answers.
Mike: B.M. Speak to me, baby.
Brushed Metal: Don’t bullshit, me Mike. What’s going on?
Mike: What do you mean?
Brushed Metal: What do you think I mean? The Special Event. It starts in 30 minutes and no one has called me yet. I’ve been calling Steve’s office all morning, they won’t take my calls. Are they yanking iTunes 5?

I can’t remember when a newly launched Apple consumer product has been so acclaimed by so many at the time of launch. I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

Brown (Head of Fema): I’ve had no reports of unrest, if the connotation of the word unrest means that people are beginning to riot, or you know, they’re banging on walls and screaming and hollering or burning tires or whatever. I’ve had no reports of that.
CNN’s Chris Lawrence: From here and from talking to the police officers, they’re losing control of the city. We’re now standing on the roof of one of the police stations. The police officers came by and told us in very, very strong terms it wasn’t safe to be out on the street.

I don’t always agree with Robert Fargo’s reviews, but I give him credit for not pulling any punches on anything he writes. Unfortunately, that appears to be just the problem:
