Is this the Final Form of the Desktop Computer?

imac

The new iMac is the desktop computer in it's most simplistic form. It's designed in the same “less is more” fashion that has made the iPod so popular. Sure the “pizza box” computer has been done before but never this well executed. The simplistic form is just fantastic. Well done Apple.

I think the design is great, and well executed as only apple can do. I will miss the swivel arm design though…I thought it was a better blend of form/function. The viewing possibilities with the swivel arm are invaluable not to mention just plain cool. If I had a choice between the old form factor with a G5 and the new form factor with a G5 I would go for the old iMac.

i've been a fan of both your sites for a good while now, they're literally the first thing I look at in the morning when I get to work. Anyway, enough praise!
I'm not so sure about the new G5 iMac, to me, it seems to go against the values that the iMac stand for. It's maily been sold as a family computer, for the home, this iMac just doesn't 'feel' like a friendly, home computer, sure it's a great bit of engineering but the swivel arm and the curves of the last iMac hit the mark perfectly. I dunno, maybe I'll come round, it's great if space is at a premium, but for me overall, it's a little disappointing. Keep up the good work Gabe!

There was something very friendly about the last imac. I think the new G5 is nice but kinda has that “CUBE” feel to it. Buy that I mean kool but missing something.

I wonder if this is really a G5? I was told that the early G4s were not anything but souped up G3s.

This does look less expensive to manufacture. Not saying cheap.

This is basically a lap top with out the cover. Where do they go from this? I think they backed themselves into a corner, design wise. But I thought Steve Jobs coming back to Apple was the end of the company, how wrong I was.
