Who has been buying SUVs since automakers turned them into family vehicles? They tend to be people who are insecure and vain. They are frequently nervous about their marriages and uncomfortable about parenthood. They often lack confidence in their driving skills. Above all, they are apt to be self-centered and self-absorbed, with little interest in the neighbors or communities.
That’s not a cynic talking–that’s the auto industry’s own market researchers and executives.
There are now 20 million SUVs in the nation’s garages and we have barely seen the beginning of the SUV boom. Ad campaigns sing their virtues and safety but safety records show the opposite, says longtime New York Times Detroit bureau chief Keith Brasher. He’s the author of the new book “High and Mighty SUVs: The World’s Most Dangerous Vehicles and How They Got that Way.” (www.onpointradio.org)
This is a radio (in real audio format) program that every American of driving age should listen to. I can’t explain in words how much I agree with Keith Brasher.

A string of new bands have burst onto the scene
and been hailed as the saviours of rock and roll. But are they the next big things or built on hype?(BBC.co.uk)
The White Stripes, The Strokes, The Hives, and the Vines in that order are fairly impressive. But what happens when the Creeds of the world decide to jump on this bandwagon. Big label creations will eventually ruin this movement like they’ve ruined all previous right? So why care? Well for one the music is fanstastic. The feeling behind this movement is what brought about rock and roll in the first place. I, for one, welcome it.

“The film’s main plot hook is the saga surrounding the record’s non-release, the controversy’s effect on the band, and the poetic justice of the ending.
But what if maybe, maybe, the whole poor-Wilco storyline isn’t fully accurate? The Wilco side of the story has been repeated so many times now that it’s accepted as undisputable truth, and as such, I Am Trying doesn’t have to work too hard to lobby for audience sympathy.” (pitchforkmedia.com)
(btw, I don’t believe any of this).

Detroit is charging more for less car, but giving out a glovebox full of cash with each sale. I suppose that’s the only way they’re going to be sell all those Azteks.
